Maybe you are wondering why did I chose this odd name for my blog page. I would gladly tell you a bit of my story and you will understand hopefully.
Growing up as both Dominican and Japanese, I often felt like I was walking a line between two beautiful cultures, each pulling me in different directions. The vibrant laughter and spontaneous gatherings of my Dominican side clashed with the quiet reflection and structured traditions of my Japanese heritage. I loved them both, yet fitting fully into one seemed impossible.
Language was one of the first barriers I encountered. Each conversation felt like a puzzle, with words that didn’t always fit together as smoothly as I wanted. But through those moments of confusion, I learned patience, empathy, and the incredible power of listening.
Finding my true self amidst these cultural storms was a journey filled with discovery. It led me to create Sakura y caña as a celebration of everything I am. Sakura, the cherry blossoms of Japan, symbolize beauty, renewal, and the transient nature of life—an emblem of delicate strength and fleeting beauty cherished in Japanese culture.
Together, Sakura y caña tells a story of strength in contrast: delicate blossoms and sturdy cane, elegance and energy, Japan and the Dominican Republic. It is a name that honors both sides of my soul and celebrates the beauty of unity in diversity.
Embracing my dual heritage and understanding that it makes me unique—and uniquely amazing—has been the greatest gift. This platform is my way of sharing that joy and showing how beautiful it can be.
Love it!
